Project Runway meets sweatshop in Creative Atelier, a three-week-long exhibition and performance series about the creative process — from conceptualization to finished product — timed to coincide with Fashion Week. The series centerpiece is Open Stitch, which begins with 15 artists working for a week with limited material under restricted conditions to produce wearable clothing, followed by an installation showcasing their creations and a video chronicle of the production process, and ending with a runway show. The series also hosts ignored in my heaven..., a new, dream-like dance work by choreographer/dancer Glen Rumsey that flaunts fantastical costumes. (Sp)
