Gen Art, in collaboration with Epicenter:Arts is pleased to present the second in a series of panel discussions this year: Outside of Fashion: Architecture, Visual Arts and Fashion Collide. This program presents a collaboration between architect Paul Woolford, Design Director for the San Francisco office of Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum, Inc.; artist Ted Vasin and Fashion Designer (and Gen Art alum) Elena Manferdini, whose design firm is intent on exploring the cutting edge of computer-aided design of exotic forms, applied to the fields of engineering, architecture, industrial design and fashion. These three will create a "collection" for show--and will discuss the pitfalls and opportunities of multi-disciplinary interaction around creating fashion.

Heather Hartle
Heather Hartle brings 10 plus years of publishing experience to her role as Editorial and Creative Director at her SF-based company, Hartle Media. A San Francisco resident, Ms. Hartle is proud to highlight the culture, arts, and entertainment of this city in her two magazines, 7x7 and the newly added California Home and Design. In addition to everything else, she devotes her free time to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which recently named her woman of the year.

Panelists
Architect/Fashion Designer: Elena Manferdini
Elena Manferdini is the principal of Atelier Manferdini, an architectural office that specialize in the cutting edge of computer- aided design of exotic forms. Because of her combination of degrees in engineering and architecture, Elena Manferdini's practice applies construction and manufacturing technologies from the aeronautic and car industry to the field of architecture, object design and fashion.

Atelier Manferdini is designing for numerous industries and it is currently collaborating with: Valentino, Nike Apparel, Nike Footwear, DWR, Alessi, Guzzini, FolliFollie, Ottaviani and Damiani Diamonds.
In addition to leading her design practice, she has written and lectured on architectural design. Her architectural projects have been exhibited internationally in both architecture and art museums. She is currently teaching at the Southern California Institute of Architecture and she has previously taught at UCLA (Design Dept. and Physics Dept.)

Visual Artist: Ted Vasin
Vasin's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums including California Palace of the Legion of Honor, De Young Art Center and Pacifica Center for the Arts. In spring 2005, the solo-show titled "Mathematical Perfection" was held at the Frey Norris Gallery. Ted was twice artist in residence at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. His work has appeared in numerous publications, including

New American Paintings and Wired magazine.


Architect: Paul S. Woolford
Paul S. Woolford is a Senior Vice President and Director of Design for the San Francisco office of Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum Inc. He has led the design of some of the largest and most complex buildings completed by HOK, such as the Whitehead Biomedical Research Building at Emory University, as well as the San Francisco International Airport BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Station, and the Headquarters for CalSTRS (the California State Teachers Retirement System). He is a recognized industry leader, whose work has focused on sustainable design, garnering the first Silver LEED=AE Award in the southern United States. Mr. Woolford's civic involvement includes numerous national and local Board of Trustee positions. His professional recognitions include being honored with the National American Institute of Architects (AIA) Young Architect of the Year Award, the Research & Development Magazine Laboratory of the Year Award for the Genencor Technology Center at Stanford, as well National and Regional AIA Awards, including a 2005 National AIA Design Excellence Award for the State Archives & Library for Georgia. Educated at Cornell University, he has taught design at the Graduate College of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, and is a frequent presenter on design, architecture and environmental issues throughout the country.


Panel Coordinators
Nicole Ward-Stalnaker, Chair of Epicenter: Arts.
Nicole Ward-Stalnaker is originally from Los Angeles, and graduated from UCSB with a degree in Cultural Anthropology. Her passion for the arts includes years of theatre and film work as an actor and classical training as a singer. After moving to San Francisco five years ago, she has dedicated time to supporting the arts in various capacities. In addition to being Chair of Epicenter:Arts, she Chairs the Arts Forum Committee of the Commonwealth Club, is Vice-Chair of the Business Arts Council, and a member of the Board of Directors of the SF Chamber of Commerce.

John Stalnaker, Program Coordinator for Epicenter: Arts.
In his professional life, John is the Assistant Vice President of IT for Poe Financial Group. He nurtures a love for the arts by sculpting =

and painting. He dedicates much of his free time to the arts and is a member of the Board of Directors of the SF International Arts Festival and serves as there Venue Coordinator, is part of the programming committee for the Arts Forum Committee of the Commonwealth Club as well as being on the Board of Directors for Epicenter: Arts.
